Hale completed her B.A. studies in Turkic languages and literature and M.A. studies in L2 Turkish instruction. Her master’s thesis is entitled ‘Turkish as a Second Language Learners’ Comprehension Levels of Universal, Cultural, and Linguistic Humor’. Right after she completed her master’s studies, she was awarded a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship (FLTA) scholarship, and she worked in Indiana University Turkish Language Program during the academic year of 2022-2023. Currently, she is a Ph.D. student in Central Eurasian Studies at IU Bloomington. She has been teaching Turkish as a foreign/second language in varied classroom settings since 2017. Her role as a language instructor has not only contributed to her research about Turkish language through instruction, creating materials and organizing cultural activities, it has also allowed her to improve as a researcher. Now, she is both studying the Turkish language in her program and developing Turkish language materials for CeLCAR as a graduate assistant.
