With the support of twenty Title VI National Resource Centers (including the Inner Asian and Uralic, Russian and East European, Middle East, and East Asia resource centers), CeLCAR directs a multi-year Proficiency Testing Project to develop proficiency guidelines and test materials for Central Asian languages (Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Mongolian, Pashto, Turkmen, Uyghur, and Uzbek).
During the first phase, proficiency guidelines for each Central Asian Languages were developed based on the specific constructions of each language, the existing proficiency standards developed by ACTFL, ILR, and Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and the framework of language use and language ability.
In the second phase, test materials for each language were developed based on the PTP proficiency guidelines.
In the final phase of the project, these test materials are being piloted against students, are being revised accordingly, and finally the standards-based test for each individual Central Asian Language will be completed.
The project is coordinated by Dr. Sun-Young Shin, CeLCAR’s Language Testing Specialist.
