Proficiency Guidelines for CA Languages

CeLCAR, in collaboration with IU’s Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center, Center for the Study of the Middle East (CSME), The Byrnes Institute (REEI)and East Asian Studies Center, and under the direction of language testing specialist Dr. Sun-Young Shin, has developed a repository of language-specific proficiency guidelines for Central Asian languages, including Kazakh, Kurmanji-Kurdish, Kyrgyz, Mongolian, PashtoTurkmen, Uyghur, and Uzbek).

These guidelines, tailored to the unique linguistics features of each language, draw from standards previously set by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines, the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Skill Level Descriptions, and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), industry standards for proficiency guidelines.
