4th Conference on Central Asian Languages and Linguistics (ConCALL-4)
The Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region (CeLCAR) will be hosting the 4th Conference of Central Asian Language and Linguistics (ConCALL-4) at Indiana University from April 9-11, 2021.
Independent Uzbekistan at 30: An Insider Perspective
This talk is an assessment of the social, economic, and political situation in Uzbekistan on the eve of independence (1991) and the early years. Speaker will review the policies (domestic and foreign) of Islam Karimov era (ending in 2016), and the election of Shavkat Mirziyoyev as President and foreign policy shifts with educational reforms, with a focus on higher education.
Dr. Beatrix Burghardt is invited to tailor a workshop to CeLCAR authors and textbook developers, using content that we are currently working on. This will be a workshop customized for us and for our projects.
Continuing Threats to Uyghur Culture, Language, and Identity.
The situation in the Uyghur Region has become so dire that the world cannot remain silent. Multiple governments have now labeled China's actions toward Uyghurs and other Muslims a genocide, including the US State Department and the parliaments in Canada, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, and Belgium. Many Uyghurs have been detained without charge in so-called "re-education camps" or sentenced to lengthy prison terms on trumped-up charges.
