Before coming to Bloomington to work at IU in August 2002 I had experience of teaching English for 17 years. I was a Director of the Regional Language Center and a part time teacher of English in Samarkand, Uzbekistan for 6 years. I founded Samarkand Regional Language Center (SamRLC) in 1996. By 1998 I opened 20 branches of the Center in the districts of Samarkand Region. Together with my staff and teachers, I introduced modern methodology and technology of teaching English. In year 2001 the number of students studying English, Uzbek, and other languages at the Center during the academic year reached about 4000. We developed a special program and curriculum of teaching Uzbek as a Second Language. Hundreds of non-native speaker students learned Uzbek language using this program at the Center and other educational establishments of Samarkand Region.
The experience mentioned above and the experience I gained at the CEUS, IU having worked for more than five years help me in making the Uzbek courses effective. My goal is to make the Uzbek courses most productive and effective by using modern language teaching methods and carefully selecting the resource, detailed course planning (syllabus and content), developing current and interesting teaching materials, using latest technology and communicative approaches. I also strive to make distance courses as effective as regular on-site course.
