Description of the video:
It started. Again. President Bush how did you like your school principal for how did you find. You have I find this really really really very impressive. And impressed with the quality I've been very much impressed with the running of the organization and everything everything is working right here in the Swiss watch here as we can say one of the things that I'm going to have like it's diversity and I know it seems like it should be fairly easy to take the focus given the languages of Central Asia and I think there are people interested in theoretical linguistics different models of linguistics people interested in teaching of languages it's just the range of languages spoken of male curriculum materials heritage languages didn't really enjoy the range of things that I've heard that I learned a lot about languages I didn't quite frankly know existed before it took me on this as well so I was a really great experience and the papers were universally great and I highly theoretical from the most theoretical in terms of abstraction to theoretically proper false or not since I really was a great experience here for me that was the first conference like over seas and it was really fascinating the fact that it's about languages here long about and languages because you do have some idea about that is that you know one of the one of the things I appreciate a lot is the size of the of the conference which is this story around I don't know maybe one hundred people or something like that which is a very manageable group in terms of. Being contact with other people to get to know other people so it's not a monstrous conference right where it's very. Everything is impersonal. It's very good it's not a very small one it's not a very good show it is so and the atmosphere is very warm I mean it is a good enough to be friendly natural whereas with. The organizers or the team the helpers and everything people are just incredibly incredibly helpful and can you tell us what did you like most of. All I like the atmosphere to be honest with you I was a really welcoming atmosphere it was an inclusive up the street I learned a lot about culture that wasn't just about linguistics it wasn't just about language one of my favorite parts was the cultural activity we did last night and just being able to be exposed to as I mentioned before had languages I had never heard literally heard spoken before potentially I had never heard of but really just a close knit environment of people who were working on a set of languages that don't get the credit that it probably do in the mainstream with respect and have a really lot to offer and be insightful to all of them for me I was really surprised apart from the perfect organization I was really surprised by the way there were many plenary sessions many cute speakers and very interesting that you're still I think I like many opportunities to hear a lot of electricity in them and most of. The. I've liked some of the calls from around. Me. On the highest level or. I got to know so a lot of things that I cannot tell that within one or to several sentences and therefore I can say that it was wonderful and I really enjoy the diversity. Perspectives sort of theoretical perspectives but later. Also this. Time there is there was a special session on language revitalisation language maintenance and I really appreciate that. There's a wide private schools represented as far as a sort of. Formal there was a series of three talks yesterday afternoon about other revealing goods and dialects and it was just interesting to see not just one but three concentrated talks on a somewhat obscure language. Or as I said we had made a bigger speakers in the audience we had made of revealing was working in something talks for it was just great to see. Such a constructive and focused environment for someone they think of which talk sports because of the joy more or that you benefit more. I've made because of my area of interest which is the sound system with a second language when all of you get to the phonology talks and have enjoyed that but I enjoyed hearing the plenary talk. Turkish question treasuring Dr prophets talk heritage language. Issues I kept up on and I will be the syntax and soul of this and. So it's also we can skew the expand by calling a site of the areas that I actively work on but I really liked all of the talks that I went to and they were varied as I mentioned before I'm from very theoretically abstract which which I tend to like because I apply abstract theoretical concepts to acquisition work that's what I do to practical and even sociological at the same time but always at a high level my favorite presentations by the one we just finished and that was the plenary by Rex Krauss I'm going part because it aligns a lot with what I do but I'm it was a showcase of how central Asian languages can be used to really answer questions of theoretical interest that defy any language. Just as and of course there's no reason to think that it couldn't have but it's not typically shown or showcased in mainstream linguistics as such so I really enjoyed the his talk of a showing. And would have lots of constraints on it and of course which is close in my heart third language acquisition and how we would benefit as a field and multilingualism by looking at various combinations of Central Asia. For me that was yesterday's planned recession by even a good month about I can't believe it remember the whole time to an hour from thing interesting about a case to be made right now because it was interesting to me first of all I liked it so that I expanded my knowledge and. I could. Get some comments from doing my presentation from some doctors professors and if they had comments I'd be happy that are valuable and starting my topic I really love the conference so far think it's absolutely amazing to have a place where linguists working on Sunday evening just got there so the data because it's a really important field of a lot of deep languages and a lot of failed research but not one that gets a lot of support in other people's tax circles so it's very important for us to have this venue here where we can meet and talk about our work with people who are familiar with the language having to work and.
The main goal of ConCALL is to bring together experts across the fields to focus on research into how these specific languages are represented formally, as well as acquired by second/foreign language learners and also to present research driven teaching methods.
