Biography

Hale Ozcan completed her BA in Turkic Languages and Literature and her MA in L2 Turkish Instruction. Her master’s thesis, Turkish as a Second Language Learners’ Comprehension Levels of Universal, Cultural, and Linguistic Humor, examines how learners of Turkish understand different types of humor. 

Since 2017, she has taught Turkish as a foreign/second language in a variety of classroom settings, including a year spent teaching Turkish at Indiana University (2022–2023) as part of the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship (FLTA) program. Her experience as a language instructor has not only shaped her research on Turkish language pedagogy, but has also strengthened her skills as a researcher.

Currently pursuing a PhD in Central Eurasian Studies at IU Bloomington, Hale is a graduate assistant at CeLCAR, working on the Turkish: An Elementary Textbook, a truly communicative language learning textbook.
