CeLCAR is proud to partner with Nashville State Community College (NSCC) to offer a new Kurdish language class, helping meet the needs of over 20,000 Kurdish families who have made Nashville their home over the past two decades.
Over the past year, CeLCAR has collaborated with Patricia Armstrong at NSCC and Nawzad Hawrami, a Kurdish representative from the New Americans Advisory Council Board, to conduct a needs analysis survey and generate interest in the class among local heritage speakers of Kurdish. Thanks to the mayor’s leadership, many of the registered students are local police officers, emergency management personnel, or public school educators seeking to enhance their Kurdish language skills and cultural competence.
